Danbury Whalers Reading Program

Today the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers Hockey Club announced the launching of the Danbury Whalers Reading Program.

The program will position Danbury Whalers players throughout the local school systems with a message of valuing the education process and all it has to offer.  As part of the visit to the schools the players will leave the students with a teacher approved challenge and assignment.  Upon completion of their project, the students will receive a complimentary hockey ticket to a selected game.

At the selected game during the season, all participants in the Danbury Whalers Reading Program will come onto the ice and be part of an awards ceremony.

The DWRP has been put into place to reward students for their academic achievements. The educational aspect of the program is designed to supplement the teachers’ current curriculum and although named with “reading” it can be designed to fit into any subject and grade level.

This opportunity for students and schools has been completely funded by an anonymous donor.  There is no cost for all schools and students to participate.

The program is open to schools and groups of all ages, including day cares & nursery schools.

As part of the program, the school with the most enthusiastic participation will be awarded a $250 grant towards their school library.

If you are interested in having the Whalers come to your school, either contact the Whalers directly or have your teacher or school administrator reach out.  The contact is Herm Sorcher at 973-713-7547 & hsorcher@thedanburywhalers.com.

The Danbury Whalers drop the puck on their second season on Thursday, October 27th at the Danbury Ice Arena against the New Jersey Outlaws.  Tickets for all games go on sale on September 10th at 12 noon.
